2009 Crop was
Corn
Sprayed 24 ounces/acre of Glystar+
with Flame and Actimaster on May 9, 2009
to kill the winter triticale that was planted on September 29, 2008 and any
weeds present. Some of the hairy vetch present in the cover crop survived
the entire growing season between the rows of corn. REA LT 568 79-81 day
RoundUp Ready corn was planted with a JD no-till planter 2" deep to achieve
16,900 plants per acre on May 15, 2009 with 96 pounds per acre of 7-25-15-6-4
fertilizer with the seed and 200 lbs./ac. urea (46-0-0) (98.7 pounds actual N
total). A post-emergence herbicide application of
24 ounces/acre of Glystar+ with Flame and Actimaster
was sprayed on
on June 28, 2009.
The corn was harvested in December 2009...yield information coming soon.
20 tons/acre of compost was applied on December 7, 2009. The compost
contained 11 pounds of N, 10 pounds of P2O5 and 23 pounds
of K2O per ton. The compost was not analyzed for
microorganisms.

2008 Crop was
Oat
No pre-emergence herbicide was
applied prior to planting. Jerry oat was planted with a JD 1590 no-till
drill at 78 lbs./acre 1.5" deep on April 15, 2008 with 50 pounds per acre of
11-52-0 fertilizer with the seed. 16 ounces/acre of Starane Sword was
applied on June 7, 2008 for post emergent weed control. The oat crop was
harvested as hay on July 11, 2008 and yielded 2590 pounds/acre.
A cover crop of .4 lb/ac sunflower, 4.5 lb/ac soybean, 6 lb/ac cowpea, 9.6 lb/ac
buckwheat, .8 lb/ac turnip, .8 lb/ac radish and 4 lb/ac millet was planted with
a JD 1590 no-till drill 1" deep on July 13, 2008 at 23 pounds/ acre with 50
pounds of 11-52-0 fertilizer placed with the seed. This cover crop emerged
very poorly and another cover crop of 3.9
lb/ac triticale, .6 lb/ac hairy vetch
and .4 lb/ac lentil was planted with a JD 1590 no-till drill 1" deep on
September 28, 2008 at 4.9 pounds/ acre. A fair stand of winter triticale
and hairy vetch established and survived the winter as a cover crop.
